Who should buy a PCIe 5.0 SSD?
We would rather you buy the right drive than the most expensive one, so here is the honest picture.
For gaming load times, the jump from a good Gen 4 SSD to a Gen 5 SSD is small today. Most games are limited by the CPU and decompression, not raw drive speed. You will notice a big difference coming from a hard drive or a SATA SSD, and a smaller one coming from a Gen 4 NVMe.
Where the 9100 PRO really shines:
- Content creators: editing 4K or 8K video, scrubbing timelines and moving huge project files
- Streamers and racers who record: saving replays and gameplay footage while you play
- New high-end builds: if you are pairing a new AM5 or Intel Z890 platform with an RTX 5070 Ti or RTX 5080, a Gen 5 boot drive keeps the whole system future-ready
- Big game libraries: the 4TB and 8TB options let you keep everything installed instead of juggling downloads
Why it matters for sim racing PCs
Modern sims are big. iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Assetto Corsa EVO, Le Mans Ultimate and F1 25 with all their tracks, cars and content packs can easily take up hundreds of gigabytes, before you add mods and replays. A fast, roomy NVMe drive means quicker loading into sessions, faster track changes and no stutter when the sim streams in new assets.
Pair it with a strong GPU for triple screens or VR and you have a rig that feels instant from the moment you sit down in your cockpit.
Check your motherboard before you buy
To get full Gen 5 speed, you need a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot. You will find these on many recent AMD AM5 boards (such as X870E, X870, and many X670E and B650E models) and on Intel Z890 boards. The 9100 PRO also works in a PCIe 4.0 slot, it will just run at Gen 4 speeds.
Pro tip: Gen 5 SSDs run warmer than Gen 4 drives under heavy load. Use your motherboard's M.2 heatsink, or choose the heatsink version of the 9100 PRO if your board does not include one. Not sure what your PC supports? Send us your motherboard model and we will check it for you.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Samsung 9100 PRO available in Singapore?
Yes. Hobby Culture Singapore has the 1TB Samsung 9100 PRO in stock from S$388.
Will the 9100 PRO work in a PCIe 4.0 slot?
Yes. It is backward compatible and will run at PCIe 4.0 speeds.
Does it work in a PS5?
The PS5 supports M.2 NVMe drives, but it uses PCIe 4.0 and requires a heatsink, so a Gen 4 drive gives you the same speed for less. The 9100 PRO is best suited to PCs.
Does the 9100 PRO come with a heatsink?
The standard model does not. A heatsink version is sold separately. Most modern motherboards include an M.2 heatsink.
