What is new on the Formula V3?
The V3 is an evolution of the Formula wheel that sim racers already know, not a completely new design. Fanatec focused on the things drivers asked for most.
A wider 290 mm rim. The V3 is 20 mm wider than the 270 mm Formula V2.5. That gives your hands more room around the grips and controls, which makes it more comfortable for more drivers and better suited to a wider range of race cars.
A much bigger display. The 1" OLED on the V2.5 grows to 2.7" on the V3. The RevLEDs also sit higher, closer to your line of sight, so you can read shift lights and telemetry without looking down.
Better controls. Two 7-way FunkySwitches replace the V2.5's mix of one FunkySwitch and an analogue joystick. The thumb rotaries have firmer resistance, sharper clicks and a push function, and a third 12-way rotary switch replaces the old 4-way selector. The new knobs are easier to grip and read, even with gloves on.
Replaceable grips. The perforated leather grips can now be swapped out by you when they wear.
Formula V3 vs Formula V2.5: which should you buy?
- Size: V3 290 mm, V2.5 270 mm
- Display: V3 2.7" OLED, V2.5 1" OLED
- LEDs: same nine RevLEDs and six FlagLEDs on both
- Paddles: both use the ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module, and both can be upgraded to the Podium Advanced Paddle Module
- Xbox: the V3 does not support Xbox. The V2.5 X is the Xbox-licensed option
- Price at Hobby Culture: V3 S$519, Formula V2.5 S$449
Our take: if you are buying a Formula wheel today for PC or PlayStation, get the V3. The bigger display and better controls are worth the extra S$70. The standard Formula V2.5 has been discontinued by Fanatec, so it makes sense only if you want to save money while our stock lasts.
Which wheel bases work with the Formula V3?
The Formula V3 is a wheel rim, so you will need a Fanatec direct drive base. It is compatible with:
- Fanatec CSL DD (5 Nm) and CSL DD (8 Nm), a great starting point for PC
- Gran Turismo DD Pro, the pick for PlayStation 5
- ClubSport DD (12 Nm) and ClubSport DD+ (15 Nm) for stronger, more detailed force feedback
- Podium DD1, DD2 and Podium DD (2026)
Platforms: PC, and PlayStation when mounted on a PlayStation-licensed Fanatec base such as the Gran Turismo DD Pro or ClubSport DD+. It is not compatible with Xbox.
Why a Formula wheel suits F1 and open-wheel sims
If you mostly race F1 25, open-wheelers in iRacing or single-seaters in Assetto Corsa, a Formula-style wheel puts every control you need under your thumbs. You can change brake bias, differential and energy settings mid-lap without taking your hands off the wheel. On the V3, the rotary switches and dials make those changes quick and accurate, and the 2.7" display shows the values as you adjust them.
Want more inputs? Add the Podium Advanced Paddle Module later for dual analogue paddles and extra controls.
